About

My name is Jessica O'Rourke. I am a fourth year interior architecture student in Munster Technological University. I created this website as a way to showcase samples of my academic portfolio. I have included work from different modules I've studied.

I chose to study this course as I have always had an interest in interiors and wanted to learn how to create aesthetic and beautiful spaces.

01 A Bit About Me

02 Work Experience

June - September 2023

DPS Engineering

For the duration of the summer I worked as an intern within the Civil, Structural, and Architectural Department in the Little Island Offices of DPS Engineering. Over the course of the summer I held a number of responsibilities included:

  • Creating detailed SketchUp Models of the proposed buildings and site context.

  • Producing detailed site renders showing phased construction of the project.

  • Aiding with the development of the design of office spaces.

  • Assessment of previous planning applications on current projects to establish potential requests for information from planning authorities.

January - February 2023

FMP Architects

For the duration of January through February, I worked as an intern in FMP Architect in Cork City. Over the course of the month my responsibilities included:

  • Working on the design development of entrance and boardroom spaces using CAD and Sketch Up.

  • Taking part in site visits.

  • Developing an infographic which described the steps involved in domestic projects, and posters on previous projects completed by the practice.

03 Furniture Upcycling

Over the course of the past four years I have become passionate about interiors, and have gained a particular interest in materials and furniture.  I developed this passion by starting to upcycle furniture.

One of the reasons I decided to begin upcycling furniture was because of the environmental benefits. Upcycling is incredibly sustainable, it reduces waste being sent to landfill as well as reduces the use of new materials being used to make furniture.

04 Photography

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”
— Aaron Siskind

I have always enjoyed photography, through studying this course I have gained an appreciation for photographing buildings.
